National Indigenous Youth Parliament

I was incredibly proud to represent the YMCA at this week’s National Indigenous Youth Parliament (NIYP).  50 young indigenous leaders from across the nation came together in Canberra to learn about the parliamentary process, to represent their local communities and to speak up about critical issues important to them.

The Young people presented bills and debated issues such as:

The program was facilitated in partnership with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) and the YMCA.

In terms creating a platform for inspired young Australians I can think of no better way for the YMCA to fulfill our mission.

I would like to thank and acknowledge the tremendous support our staff provided to the NIYP – Kieran Ryan, Tom Stevenson, Emily Grecko and Michael Delaney (from left in the below image at Government House, with myself pictured centre).

NIYP is an inspiring event for young Indigenous Australians and one the YMCA should be proud to be part of.

Best regards,
