YMCA Canberra Half Marathon Weekend 27/28th May 2017

Thank you to all our participants in the three events over the YMCA of Canberra Half Marathon weekend. Congratulations to those who particpated in their first half marathon, I hope you enjoyed the experience and were inspired to keep pursuing your running goals.  This year we had 326 finishers and 376 entrants, nearly 250 of which were YMCA of Canberra Runners Club members.  We also had over 67 runners complete the kids jogalong and 47 complete the 5km run on Saturday.

This year’s half marathon winner was Bradley Croker in a time of 1.09.40 followed by Alistair Rogers in 1.14.09 and Travis Haslam in 1.14.22. First female across the line was Hannah Walmsley in 1.22.04 with Emma Brown in second at 1.22.48, and Kim Wilmshurst third in 1.31.14.

The results are available on My Race Result and you are able to print off a finisher’s certificate from the site too. We had several photographers (David Appleby, David Blucher and Paul Jeffery) out on course and at the finish line and the link to the photographs will be posted on the YMCA website and on Facebook as they become available.

Our sponsors this year were Mizuno, Instant Colour Press and The Runner’s Shop. CORC Canberra also continues to lend us the timing system that we use, operated by volunteer Matt Dyne.  I would like to extend my thanks to them for their ongoing involvement with the race which would not be possible without their support.

The race was coordinated this year by a dedicated team including: Howard Morris and Nerida Dyne on logistics, Madeleine Kaye on promotions, Kat Knope on volunteers and support, Justin Jarvis, Mark Stiffle and Ken Eynon on Race weekend set up, and Dave Hobson and Michael Cusak on reach back to the YMCA. We also had over 50 hard-working volunteers support the weekend, which helped ensure a smooth running of the events and a safe environment for participants.

The YMCA Canberra Runners Club is open to people of all ages and abilities and is a great way to get fit and meet new people. It conducts over 90 races throughout the year, with membership giving you free entry to most events.

The next YMCA of Canberra Half Marathon will likely be held in the second last weekend of May 2018, but this will be confirmed later this year. We look forward to another great event and hope to see all of you again then.

 Sincerely,

Gemma Ruddick
Race Director
