Try Sailing this School Holidays

Is your child interested in trying a new and exciting activity this school holidays? Are they aged between 12 – 17 years? Why not join us for our 4-day sailing course, for a school holidays program to remember!

YMCA Canberra’s OutThrere Adventure Week school holiday program is the perfect way for your child to gain an in-depth introduction to the exhilarating world of sailing, kayaking and paddle boarding.

Students will have gain experience with Kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and sailing.

Those who successfully complete the course be ready to take a sailing boat out by themselves. They will be able to tack and gybe (turn the boat) and stop alongside a buoy or moored boat. They will have a knowledge of and experience in applying sailing right-of-way rules. Successful students will also be awarded an Australian Sailing Discover Sailing Level 2 certificate.

The sailing boats we use for training in these courses are Pacers, which are a great boat for learning in, as they give you plenty of warning when you are doing something wrong, but reward being sailed well.

Please note: the registration form will ask for an AS Number (Australian Sailing Number). You can leave this blank and the system will automatically create one for your child.

If you have any problems registering, please email with your phone number and we will contact you as soon as we can. Or call 0407 262 975.

Air quality considerations

Our staff monitor air quality throughout the day. If air quality is too low, we take boats inside for participants to work inside on theory-based activities until air quality improves. If we are required to move inside, we will continue to monitor air levels and return to the water as soon as possible.
