YMCA of Canberra is the leading provider of older adult exercise classes in Canberra so you are in good hands. Most of our participants are looking for a friendly, fun and engaging class that will provide them with a level of challenge that makes them work but is not pushy or confronting and this is what we deliver.
PrYme Mover classes cater for a broad range of abilities and fitness levels. If you haven't participated in formal exercise for a long time don't worry your instructor will help you to work only within your capacity.
Our classes have different focus areas such as cardiovascular health, strengthening, balance and core stability. We also run classes tailored to people who are living with mobility limitations or chronic illness.
In most of our locations there is an opportunity for participants to linger after class for a cuppa and a chat either at the venue or at a local coffee shop. Many of our participants take advantage of this social opportunity.
Anyone 50 years or over can get involved
The only requirement for participation in our PrYme mover programs is your age and a willingness to give it a go.
We offer PrYme mover programs at our Chifley Health and Fitness Centre and through our Community PrYme Movers initiative. View our timetables to choose a program location, time and class that will suit your needs.
PrYme Movers at Chifley Health and Fitness Centre
We offer a special PrYme mover membership at the Chifley Health and Fitness Centre. This is a discounted membership that enables members access to the facilities during all scheduled PrYme mover classes and also on Saturday mornings. Alternatively if you wish to access the facilities outside of these times you can take advantage of one of our other well priced memberships.
Joining up with a PrYme mover membership on direct debit provides you with the best value for money however, for those who prefer it we also operate a 10 and 20 visit ticket option exclusively for our PrYme movers. We have group classes that are based both in our group fitness room and in our gym. All classes operate on a drop in basis. Detailed class descriptions are available on our program pages for group fitness or for gym based classes.

YMCA Community PrYme Movers
These PrYme Mover programs are conducted at various non YMCA venues throughout North and South Canberra. The concept behind this initiative is bringing physical activity programs closer to you!
We appreciate that accessibility is an important factor in encouraging older adults to participate in physical activity programs and we have, within our capacity, endeavoured to provide options for physical activity across a range of suburbs in Canberra.
These classes also operate on a drop in basis. We advise participants attending for the first time to arrive 10mins early to allow time to complete a short health screening questionnaire. Participants wishing to get the best value for money can purchase a 10 ticket pass to these classes or they are welcome to pay a casual rate per visit. Payment for 10 ticket passes or casual visit must be in cash as the instructor does not have other facilities at these offsite locations.
