The YCRC conducts a number of training groups to assist members with their running goals. Club training groups are conducted by members who volunteer their time and expertise to facilitate these groups. All runners must be members of the YCRC and pay the appropriate registration fee.
Tuesday Thursday Saturday Training Group (TTS)
This training group caters for social runners of mixed ability whose training times range from 4 min/km to 7.30 min/km. The group meets at Lennox Gardens, Flynn Drive (near the toilet block) at 6:30 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays and meets at various venues around Canberra at 7:00 am on Saturdays. The group meets all year round.
Midweek runs go for about an hour while Saturday runs are generally longer with a coffee or breakfast afterwards at a local cafe. The atmosphere of this group is very social providing members with an opportunity to train and socialise with other runners. A number of our more experienced members and distance runners will be training with the group, so it is also a good opportunity to get advice on any of your running questions.
Groups of TTS runners also attend events outside Canberra such as the Melbourne Marathon Festival and the Queenstown Marathon in New Zealand. So if you are looking for some company on an interstate trip ask around to see if others are planning to attend. During Autumn the TTS assists with the YCRC Half Marathon Training Group (see below) by running with the participants each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. A detailed program for the Saturday run locations is produced quarterly.
The Canberra Times Marathon Festival 5.3/10 km Training Program 2020

This 8-week training program is designed for those who want to start running, those who run regularly but want to improve, those who used to run and need help to start again, and those who hate running alone and need some running buddies.
Our 2020 program starts on Sunday 9 February and concludes on Thursday 9 April. This structured program allows runners to develop fitness and running strength in a fun and supportive environment.
Training is on three mornings each week – Tuesday and Thursday (6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.) and Sunday (from 7:30 a.m.). Our training base is the entrance to Weston Park, at the corner of Banks and Brown Streets, Yarralumla.
This 13-week Training Program prepares runners for the YMCA Canberra Half Marathon. It is suitable for those looking to move up to the half marathon from 10 km events and those who are returning to distance running.
The YMCA of Canberra Runners Club is conducting a half marathon-training group to prepare participants for the YMCA of Canberra Half Marathon on Sunday 24 May 2020. Please pass on these details to friends and family. It is aimed at novices – those runners who have not completed this distance before and are attracted by the challenge - or people who are coming back to distance running after a long break. We suggest that you are able to run for about 40 minutes before joining the program. Note that the first run the group will do is around 8km.
The program will start on Saturday 29 Feb at 7am at Acton Park, end of Barrine Dr near the Parkes Way overpass and finish with a celebratory recovery run on the Tuesday (26 May) following the big event. Group training will take place on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings at various venues around Canberra. Members may also like to participate in the YMCA of Canberra Runners Club events as part of their training.
Experienced runners with many marathons and half marathons behind them will run/jog with participants at each group session.
