What: YMCA Canberra Space Squad is Australia's only residential holiday camp program for students in Years 6-9 who love Space! Over five packed days, our campers will be immersed in Space and the Space Industry. We will answer questions like how do we get to Mars? How does Australia contribute to the Global Space Industry? What’s it like to be an astronaut?
When: Our next camp will be held from 08 - 12 July 2019
30 September - 04 October 2019
Where: Camps will be held in Canberra with participants staying at the YMCA Bush Capital Lodge in Canberra. Campers will be bussed from their accommodation to sites around Canberra. Bush Capital Lodge won the category of Best Standard Accommodation at the 2015 Canberra & Regional Tourism Awards.
Who: The Camps are organised by YMCA Canberra, who have organised camps and children’s activities for over 75 Years in Canberra. Each camp has an experienced camp leader, as well as a team of dedicated volunteers. Transport details will be made available to successful applicants.
YMCA Canberra is accredited as a Safeguarding Children and Young People organisation independently audited by the Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF). All YMCA Canberra Employees and Volunteers complete appropriate safeguarding and vulnerable people training and have a commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable people first and foremost in all our programs and activities.
Why: We love Space! Canberra has some of Australia’s greatest Space attractions. In fact, some of the first images of a man walking on the moon were beamed from Honey Suckle Creek, a tracking Station in Canberra. It’s an experience not available anywhere else in Australia.
HowTo Apply: Application for our April YMCA Canberra Space Squad are being taken now. Check out and Like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/YSpaceSquad/ to find out how to apply and to keep up-to-date.

For 5 days, attendees learn all about space exploration and science, as well as meet engineers, astronomers, astrophysicists and scientists who work on space missions, while staying at YMCA Canberra Bush Capital Lodge.
During their camp, they visit and experience the Advanced Instrument and Technology Centre (AITC) at Mt Stromlo and touch satellites, look at dwarf galaxies orbiting around Centaurs A, hear about how stars collide and the first ripples in space which are known as gravitational waves, as well as visiting NASA’s Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex and Questacon, launch rockets and fly drones.
These are just a few of the experiences we have when you join our next YMCA Canberra Space Squad!
